Pumpkin-Head

If you are in Arizona--the Carefree Gardens are spectacular, and the pumpkin hunt is great fun!



There are pumpkins doing things that are done in Arizona by residents and visitors alike!





These are real pumpkins pickled in vinegar (about 80% vinegar and 20% water). Some carvings have lasted a year plus.  While all of the carvings in the tanks are created in pumpkin, several addition materials such as sweet potatoes, squash, carrots and white potatoes have been used to add color & enhance their appearance.



Most of the vignettes on the ground are fake pumpkins so the javalina don't eat them in the night.  Artists from around the country as well as one all the way from Russia contributed to this project.
